William Morris has been writing songs since the age of five. His mother
can still proudly sing the first efforts from all those years ago...much
to his embarrassment!
From the age of eleven he sung professionally on television, radio and
the concert platform and began to study composition seriously from the
age of thirteen with Henry Zayazckowsky. After a brief stint of teaching
he went on to study music at degree level at Bristol university. It was
during this time and while he should have been preparing for his finals
that he developed an interest in musical theatre while performing in a
very early production of Chicago (before its more recent West End success).
It was at Bristol that he met Lotti and Christopher and there they began
their long performing history together, writing songs and generally avoiding
serious study.
Since graduation he has worked on a number of commissions including the
award winning ballet film Facing Mara (Native Voice Films) and the BBC
radio play The Glasshouse.
He produced a CD of piano music for a collaboration project with artist
Fran Barrault on her set of images, Bridges of Light. William has worked
in all areas of music from High Church to Vaudeville but he has concentrated
more recently on musical theatre. His musicals include; Rasputin - the
life and death of the mad monk (Musical Futures, Greenwich Theatre); What
You Will - a modern re-working of Twelfth Night (coming out January 2008);
and Stratford Street - a wild romp with a time travelling bard (with lyrics
by Chris Morris).
